I hated you as a Charger and loved you as a Pat. A couple years ago I took my kids to training camp, we stopped by the pro-shop just in time to get some autographs. Amongst the shouts of 'Rodney!', "Hey over hear!', 'C'mon Rodney', younger daughter shouted 'Hi Rodney, can you sign my hat please?' You stopped and looked several feet away over at us and said 'Who's calling me? Was that you?' You skipped over grown men with helmets and photos and rude kids and parents shoving programs and paper at you to come talk to my daughters. My oldest wanted a jersey that day and didn't know what to get. That moment sealed it for her. #37 all the way! You and I spoke a bit about my 1 year old son whom I was holding and his stair climbing prowess. I didn't get an autograph for myself as I don't believe much in it, but I appreciated and will always remember the very brief conversation we had as a couple of dads talking about the kids amongst the chaos. That meant more than some scribbles of ink ever would. A few weeks later you were suspended for use of HGH. At first my daughter was heart-broken and I was angry. When she heard the news, she asked what to do, she was upset. It was then that I thought back to our brief conversation. You're just a regular guy like the rest of us. You're not perfect in the choices you make and neither am I. I told her to be proud of you for standing up for your mistakes, for being accountable and for not making excuses. I told her you were more of a role-model now than you were before. She wore that #37 jersey proudly to school the next day. I appreciate the player you have been and the man you are. Thanks for the thrills and thanks for taking just a couple minutes to connect with us personally. We'll miss you on the field but NBC just gained a new viewer to Sunday night football's pre/post and halftime coverage even when the Pats aren't playing. I can't wait! Take Care! Brett Monk

Thanks for all the great memories. I understand how difficult it must have been for you recovering from your injuries. As a disabled veteran, I, too, have had good days and bad days, but have kept pushing myself to get better and be the father my kids need me to be. You've been an inspiration to watch on the field, and I can't thank you enough for the standards you set in New England. You have my best wishes for a long and successful career in broadcasting, and a happy and prosperous life with your family. Respects, Tim Kindred Bath, Maine
| When I got to High school I was placed into the starting rotation at an early age playing mike. I was demoted quickly, with coaches telling me I was too small and too slow. I always watched pro football, and you were my favorite player in the NFL. I studied what film I could get my hands on of you playing. Your passion, your intensity, your integrity, and the honor you brought to the game. You respected the game and played it how it was meant to be played. I learned some of your leverage techniques, and made my way back on. I decided that if naturally I wasn't going to be the biggest and fastest, I would train harder than anyone else. I made this decision because of the comments you made. I ended up becoming a starter at a pretty competitive d2 school and I owe it to you. Rodney, I have the utmost respect for you as a player and as a man. The way you played and the respect you had for the game is a true inspiration to anyone who loves football. Your tenacity with fighting through injuries, your leadership on and off the field, and your level of play will forever be remembered. Thank you for adding to the legacy of this great game, and for the guidance your style of play gave me. Best of luck in all of your future endeavors and enjoy your time with your family! | I am a 22 year old senior college student from Pawtucket, Rhode Island. I played football since I was 7 years old and have a great respect and knowledge of football. I replicated a player exactly like Rodney. He has been my all-time favrorite player to watch play for long time now. I also played safety, as well as HB. I just dont think Rodney truly understands how much of a role model he really is to people out there. Watching his game, and seeing him time and time again not care for his body when it came to making a play or tackle. I am a genuine fan who sees all of those little things out there and there is nobody who did those things better than my boy Rodney. It's tough to see one of the REAL football players go. Worthy |
Rodney thanks for all the great memories ! My Dad passed away a few days after the 2004 Super Bowl. He was 88 with cancer, emphysema and leukemia and he held on those last weeks for 2 reasons, the Pats heading for the SB and he wanted to hit his 88th birthday. Your relentless play helped give my Dad that final gift. He passed away less than a week later 2 days after his birthday. You have been my favorite player of all time every since I saw you walking off the field after the 2003 SB with a broken arm you got from hitting so hard. I respect that sort of passion very much. Best ever safety in the history of the league as far as I'm concerned. Martin Favorite
Rodney, congratulations on an outstanding career. Although you were a Charger for many years, I will always consider you a Patriot. Without you, our SB record wouldn't be what it is. You will forever correctly be the measuring stick for every DB who wears the blue, silver and red. Enjoy your retirement and I look forward to seeing you and hearing you on NBC. John Pilibosian
Congrats on an outstanding career in the NFL, Rodney! You are one of my all time favorite Patriots and I am thankful for all your contributions to the team. Best wishes to you and your family! You will be missed! Brian Loomis
I'm no football expert, but it doesn't take one to know you kicked ass out there. I'm glad you joined the Patriots and I know a good portion of the Team's success related to the way your leadership affected the entire defense. Thanks for leaving it all on the field. Good luck in the future. Jason Stone
As a lifelong Pats fan, I just want to thank you for kicking ass and taking names for the last 5+ years. There were few things that I enjoyed more than watching you and Seymour on defense, and it was largely thanks to you that, even as a relatively uninformed fan, I went into every game knowing that you guys would be better-prepared and harder-working than whoever you were playing. Best of luck in the future, and I look forward to listening to you in the broadcast booth! Myles
As you retire from professional football and begin the next phase of your career I wanted to congratulate you on your remarkable achievements. From your Pro Bowl appearances to becoming the founding member of the 30/30 Club to the culmination of your success as a two-time Superbowl Champion, you have left an indelible mark on the NFL, the communities of New England and the sport of football itself. It was a privilage to watch you play the game and a greater privilage to share the title of "New Englander" with you. Thank you for choosing to make New England your home and helping to bring the first dynasty of the modern era to Foxboro. Good luck in all that you do - it's a pleasure to watch you broadcast and your knowledge, honesty, and wit are refreshing and entertaining. I know you will have just as much success off the field as you found on it. Save me a seat in Canton on Induction Day - I'll be there to see you when you take your deserved spot among the game's best! Good luck and God bless! Dennis Boyer
Coach J, MRs. J and I (Emilee) are so proud of you! It has been great watching you grow from such a mini basketball player to a pro in the NFL! Hope to see you sometime in the future. Take care! Love to your mom! Enjoy retirement! Coach J finally is! Emilee Jaworowski-Biegel
